No cavity insulation then?
'Empty Walls' is the first single to be taken from former System of a Down front man Serj Tankian's solo album 'Elect the Dead'.
First impressions are favourable, a hard hitting riff gives way to a more ambient verse, which builds slowly into a familiar quick vocal. Tankian has such a distinctive voice that once he'd made the choice to follow a similar style to SOAD then comparisons were inevitable. 'Empty Walls' isn't as crazy as SOAD, nor is it quite as hard hitting but it's not that far removed either. All this probably means that those lamenting the loss of SOAD will find enough similarities in his solo material to be satisfied, whilst at the same time the fact that it sounds a little less raw gives it more of a commercial edge and may well draw in new fans.
'Empty Walls' is a good single, a definite grower and just hard enough but layered with plenty of melody and Tankian's distinctive vocals to set it apart.
