The Concretes - Keep Yours

The perfect indie pop single has always possessed the ambivalent qualities of somehow being both indispensable and throw-away at the same time.
The Smiths mastered it, so did Blur (for a while at least). When it hits the spot there is nothing better and this is definitely on the side of angels.

'Keep Yours' harks back to the golden age of the late eighties and early nineties where the words 'lush' and 'dreamy' were probably over-used to great extent. Over the course of a mere 2 and a half minutes, verses of spiky synths and reverberant vocals linger over gorgeously simple minor chords before revealing a brief but poignant chorus ("You can keep yours..and i'll hold on to mine") Like a musical jaffa cake, it melts in your mouth all too quickly and you need another taste. Both eerie and glorious in equal measure.

The obligatory remixes are nearly as good, both cleverly retaining the song's heart, instead of processing the hell out of it like most do..

Highly recommended.
