Next from the British indie machine...

"The Going"'s heritage in British guitar music from days of yore is obvious from the second that the bass, drums, guitar and orchestra hits your ears. Most of the key-components of melodic British indie are here – a kind of journey from The Smiths, through Pulp and St Etienne to the lighter side of Razorlight. Not that you hold that against it because "The Going" is actually quite a good listening experience.

"The Going" would disappear into a sea of obscurity if it wasn't for some rather tasteful and subtle production which gives enough clout to what matters (riffs and vocals) and drives the rhythm section down in the mix. It's exactly the way that this type of thing ought to sound but seldom does. The melodies of the song are strong and the hook, although obvious, eventually wins you over and gets your head bobbing. This is not the best thing that you will ever hear, but as far as adequate goes, it's a masterpiece.
