Ben's Brother - Carry On

'Carry On' by 'Ben's Brother', a London band with a full length album already under their belts, is a languid, too languid, follow up single. The music is slow moving and indifferent so the only thing that gives the song any shape is the words. The instrumental version, the B side to the full one, is as empty as desert and as featureless too.

It has a piano and what sounds like a mandarin but could be any high pitched string instrument. The first time you listen to it it's perfectly pleasant but boredom looms even then. It's, well, nice. There's a nice-ish rhythm to it but not nice enough to be worth mentioning.

I shouldn't have bothered but I want to defend this song in spite of itself. I want to pretend I like it until I remember that, for a band on the rise, nice is a pejorative. It is nice but so is the worst of Dido and Coldplay. Strikingly mediocre.
