Moros Eros – Jealous Me Was Killed By Curiosity

'Moros Eros' is definitely an unusual and diverse band to appear on the Victory records roster. There's no metal, screamo or hardcore to be seen. In fact 'Moros Eros' are quite, well quiet. It's a pop record, with quirky angular guitars and breezy melodies.
'Jealous Me Was Killed By Curiosity' is the bands second album and it offers a whole lot more than meets the eye.
Chanting vocal lines, pounding rhythms and spiky sharp guitars make for an incredibly inventive rock record. This is definitely a band that refuses to be pigeon holed into a genre, they make music that's you simply cannot pin down or even find the words to describe. It's good but I don't know why, its fresh and it's different but I cannot seem to find the appropriate sentence to explain this or anything else. What I can say is that this record offers a sound that is forgotten in the current scene. With elements of post hardcore and shouty jagged indie pop 'Jealous Me' is definitely something of a rarity

Opening track 'Quit, You're Being Thoughtless' is one of the poppier moments on the record with a definite dark undertone. 'On My Side' offers a quirky and frenetic side to the band while 'Choices' provides the perfect post punk antidote. Several of the tracks would make you think this band were perhaps a Christian rock group, with all the references to religion, angels, demons and god's. This is no surprise considering their origins in Bible-Belt Georgia. However I think the lyrics portray something very different indeed, this band is sharp and the lyrics have an incredible amount of subtlety behind them.

Ignoring this though and 'Moros Eros' are full of energetic prowess with razor sharp hooks, vocalist Zach Tipton almost squawks into the mic, it's a high pitched rant that pierces the ears and makes them listen up as well. This record may be difficult to listen to in places due to the almost discordant tonality and kooky vocals, but its also these elements that make 'Jealous Me' more listen-able and this I just cannot explain.
On a whole this record is something to play loud anytime and for any occasion, it's something that will impress your mates and something whereby you will be asked, 'Who is this band?' You can tell them, they are 'Moros Eros' and you'll be hearing a lot more from them soon.
