The early 90s without the style or passion in 4 tracks.

It's very hard to see what Andy White was trying to achieve with "Message To You". This varied EP does offer a variety of styles and should be praised for having an ambitious mix of genres on offer, but, frankly, it's so outdated that it's laughable.

From the vastly overplayed Sgt Peppers' opening of "Message To You" through the muddy, overbaked production of "Baby You Can't Go Wrong" to the weak and weedy "Folk Song", there is very little to like here. The music is basic without being overly catchy, the singing never sounds sure of itself and the lyrics are rubbish.

There is nothing offensive about "Message To You" and, if released in 1993, then this could have easily have passed muster. But times have changed and so have people. In an age where tastes are varied and music scenes are fragmented into almost tailored segments, there just isn't space in the world for stuff like this. And, given the quality of the songwriting and performance, this isn't even a pity.
