OW - Moon Tan
‘Moon Tan’ is nearly six minutes long, which is too long unless, like the band, you regard it as about a dozen songs stuck together. It’s hard to know which thirty seconds of it to review. Most are good, some are odd but they don’t at all gel into a sound that keeps your attention so the most striking bits of the song is when they go from sounding like Explosions In The Sky to Pink Floyd in a second and then to chanting wordless vocals in another.
OW list themselves as ‘Psychedelic/Experimental/Alternative’ on MySpace but this experiment is too far gone and far reaching to be a success. Other songs on their MySpace are a bit better. ‘Black Hole’, nine minutes, is full of strange sounds and ‘Black Lagoon’, five minutes, has only about three movements that flow into one another smoothly. Why ‘Moon Tan’ is the lead single and title track from OW’s album is anyone’s guess.
