A new kid on the block.

Theres a classic old-school feel to ‘Devils Flame’ by Dawn Kinnaird that all you hip-cats looking for the new Amy that wont self-destruct or sabotage her career should cock an ear at.

At times speaking as opposed to singing, Kinnaird seems apart from the song, giving it a strange, almost other worldly feel, bolstered by a neat little guitar line that sporadically pops up, further enhancing the feel of a smoky back-room set-up from a decade long gone. They say that the devil has all the best tunes and you can appreciate the murky link with him as Kinnaird is at times enticing, at others challenging but never boring, which is always good for a debut single.

Its backed by ‘Fortuneteller’ which ups the woozy factor and throws in a Wurlitzer organ sound halfway through that should tie in with the carnival feel but places the song in an almost Twin Peaks like setting.

Yes, these two songs would indicate that Dawn Kinnaird is a curious individual and its likely this wont be the last we’ll be hearing from her, hopefully for all the right reasons.
