Avenged Sevenfold • Afterlife

It’s the second release from Avenged Sevenfold’s self-titled album. Afterlife the fourth track on the record is another melodic riff fuelled effort. Kicking off with soaring guitars and then turning into something more mid tempo and tuneful, this track certainly aims to please, although gives the impression of a slight new direction for the band. It’s definitely not as punchy as many Avenged Sevenfold tracks are, but instead it has a more anthemic quality with one hell of a shredding guitar solo too. The drumming offers the usual intense pounding but is somewhat drowned in a fury of guitars. It also seems to be a very vocal led track with a distinct lack of growls and screams.

I think this is definitely an experimental track on an experimental album. It feels somewhat more accessible than the typical A7X sound. Although many of their qualities remain it is still obvious they’ve tried something a little different, and it will be very interesting to see how it’s picked up.
