Just marvellous
Despite offending some of the Radiohead purists, this reworking of their old 1995 single by English-American hybrid Ronson is a slice of pure jazz funk marvellousness. Ronson's doing what he does best here, resulting in an unutterably catchy single. It originally came out a couple of years ago when Ronson was still pretty much unknown, but sparked the idea for a covers album. The added jazz breaks and trumpets have again divided people, but it certainly puts a new cheeky twist on the more melancholy, heartfelt original. Alex Greenwald's (the lead singer of Phantom Planet, the guys who did the theme tune to the OC) vocals also work surprisingly well. And although he seems to be able to turn his trademark style to pretty much anything to great commercial success at the moment, how long before that style sounds too tired?
