My American Heart - Hiding Inside The Horrible Weather (Well it brightened my day)

Wow!!! Deep breath…in…and out…this album is blooming brilliant. No matter what exactly it is you are after, something rock, indie, poppy or a little classical and jazzy, maybe some strong riffs or a gentle ballad, the release of ‘Hiding Inside The Horrible Weather’ has it all.

I had previously heard the debut release form My American Heart, ‘Boys Grab Your Guns’ and thought it was a terrific track, had an outstanding beat and vocals to match. The melody was one to grab me into a world of manic, mayhem and magic. Of course then, I had high hopes for the album so I am very pleased it was a cracker.

From start to finish there were no disappointing songs where I had to grab for the remote and flick to the next track. There was no drifting away to another place ignoring the tunes, there was only attention, concentration and focused thought.

Each of the tracks is catchy in its own way whether it’s an upbeat electric show down like ‘Speak Low If You Speak Love’, a pop melody like the title track, some explosive instrumentals like ‘Moving On’ or some slower sections like ‘Fantasy’. Each stands out for its own elements. There are specifically four that stood out in my mind each for a different reason. The first single is one, ‘Tired And Uninspired,’ a ballad with an excellent rhythm and a chorus that gives me trembles, the concluding acoustic number ‘All my friends’ and ‘Dangerous’ which explores a variety of styles giving this number a jazzy and classier feel.

Vocals from Larry Soliman are amazing from beginning to end. He has the ability to turn his talents to each and every style of music while filling it perfectly with enough emotion to make me shiver. His vocals never fail to set me alight, whether singing high above the music or alongside it in acoustic numbers. The energy and emotion put in is never ending. The lyrics likewise are just as amazing as everything else this record has to offer. Two lines that particularly stuck in my mind as I listened intently were “I think your brain got stuck in the air waves” from ‘Boys Grab Your Guns’ and “you are the earth beneath my feet/you are my gravity” from ‘Tired And Uninspired’.

If there is just one album to get 2008 well and truly underway it is this one. This year the world will bow down to My American Heart.
