Familiar and friendly indie pop.
Theres such an immediate comfort in ‘A-Z’ from Chris T-T that it could be described as the musical equivalent of a thick pair of woolly socks on a cold and windy day. Sure, its not going to suit every occasion and mood but there are some times that the comforting feeling that you’ve felt many times before in the past is just what is required.
If you get the impression that we’ve heard the sound of Chris T-T before then we definitely have, it has the archetypal UK indie Bloc Party feel to it but most importantly, it is pretty good at what it does.
‘A-Z’ starts with an up-tempo release and doesn’t slow down at any point, its constant driving energy has a nervous edge to it but this is calmed by the vocals of the main man which are quiet but have a pleading urgency about them that should get most people nodding away in agreement. The highlight is probably the underlying guitar that manages to squeal up and down but does so without drawing too much attention to itself until about the third or fourth listen.
He has got a pretty impressive UK tour kicking off near the end of this month and on some dates he will be appearing alongside other R13 favourite Frank Turner (although he is no Frank Sidebottom, let me tell you ladies and gentlemen) and if ‘A-Z’ promises to be the type of music that will be getting served up on the tour, then it may be advisable buying a ticket now.
