Reliable and familiar.
The ever reliable Bragg releases another catchy sing along tune; this time enlisting the help of some friends in the form of Ian McLagan from the Small Faces on the organ and Robert Wyatt on vocals. The silky smooth vocals and assured song writing mean that this tune, while not one of the most rousing, classic, bring-down-the house numbers that makes us all jump to our feet and shout along when we see him live, is still memorable and warm and familiar.
The more gentle, acoustic ‘B’ side, ‘Like Soldiers Do’ sees Bragg back on vocal duties and makes you remember why he is a vital and essential political voice in the UK; the understated guitar picks out a touching tune while the lyrics tell a story; all in all a classic Bragg combo as usual.
