What medication have these guys been taking?!
Does the opening riff sound like Iggy Pop’s ‘Lust For Life’ to anyone else? I can’t get that idea out of my head. Putting that minor detail aside for a moment, it is a catchy little tune. Classic nineties indie pop, with that unique Liverpool twist. Clinic never fail to deliver consistently good records, if a tad uninspiring this time.
‘Earl Mallard’ is just plain kooky. Ok, weird. Somewhere between the ‘Rhubarb and Custard’ theme tune and sixties psychedelia. With an acoustic ending. If that makes any sense. Definitely a B-side, but definitely one to check out for its sheer originality. ‘Hijack’ is a chilled out slice of indie-psych that bridges between the chartability of ‘The Witch’ and the kookiness of ‘Earl Mallard’. Blessedly to-the-point, this should do very well. Fantastic stuff. Bring on the sixties revival!
