This Et Al
“The Figure Eight EP” marks the return of This Et Al after the release of their critically acclaimed debut LP “Baby Machine”. The Leeds based four piece show that “Baby Machine” was not just a one off with a four track EP which boasts a great balance between dark and haunting moments and up-beat pulse racing moments. The band show intelligent musicianship throughout, with changes in tempo, dynamic and direction without compromising the songs meaning or melody.
Lead track “Figure Eight” is a fast paced yet dark opener which uses altering tempos and a strong undercurrent of distorted bass to present the high pitched vocals. The short length of the opening track leaves you wanting more and is followed by my personal favourite “Medicine Hammer”. Its continuous rise is exhilarating and once again the strong song writing ability of the band shows through. Final Track “(The Tale Of) Frosty Jackson” is an enticing instrumental which combines all the best attributes of this bands sound and certainly leaves you wanting more from This Et Al.
“The Figure Eight EP” is set for release on Monday May 19th and is available from the bands website www.thisetal.com. If you are a fan of changeable tempo’s, melodies that cling to you like pleasure giving parasites and indie beats to get your foot tapping I suggest you check out this release.
