Pirouetting Electro Lullabies
Fragile melodies fluttering gracefully over a shimmering sonic backing, the enchanting Colt deliver the goods with their latest sumptous EP. The four new tracks offer half an hour of organic musical evolution with pirouetting vocals and an effortlessly transient backing of keys, synths and sensual serenity.
The first half of the EP settles you into the warm depth of Andrea's vocals with dreamy melodies drifting elegantly and lulling the listener into a shimmering soundscape. 'Black Rabbits' sparkles with the kind of illusory pearl-drop magic you might expect from anything associated with the conjurer's pets while the lyrics mutate to the tragic, "I gallop rings round you til the pads of my paws bled and til I am sick and giddy in the head" showing a little of the vitriol present in Colt's LP.
'Static' bathes the listener in glossy, iridescent synth tones while Andrea's voice soothes with its surreal softness. The tunes are undoubtedly beautiful and inspiring, but need a discerning listen, rather than a casual passing glimpse to appreciate their full joy.
The remix of 'Snakes To Dust' simply sees a hideous dark sonic seesaw grind into the gentle tune, while, 'Black Rabbits' (Dark Version) certainly casts a dark and almost industrial shadow on the piece with intense beats permeating the delicate melodic ripples.
