Lights Action • All Eyes To The Morning Sun

The label that is home to ex Million Dead and now folk troubadour Frank Turner, one of the men behind the original meaning of ‘emo’ Jonah Matranga and British rockers Reuben amongst others, release the new mini album from London based 5-piece Lights Action, All Eyes To The Morning Sun. So far Lights Action has played some great shows with the likes of Kids In Glass Houses, I Was A Cub Scout and Boy Kill Boy. They’ve also put in appearance at Download, The Great Escape and Guilfest and supported Aiden on one of the Kerrang Award shows. Doing a metal festival and a predominantly indie festival does give you an idea of what these guys are like, they can’t really be pigeon holed.

My first thoughts when listening to the EP is that Lights Action know how to write a decent tune. They create a feeling of slight thoughtful melancholy with great uplifting surges. I would compare half the songs to Jimmy Eat World, ‘Satellites’ and ‘Ghosts’ in particular. ‘Story of a Broken Boy’ and ‘Aurora’ have a slightly more upbeat indie disco feel. The outro track ‘All Eyes To The Morning Sun’ is absolutely delightful with its laid back blues feel and I’m a bit disappointed that there wasn’t more of this.

I’m not sure exactly where to place these guys and judging by the strange mix of shows they’ve played I’m sure others feel the same way. But at the end of the day the songs are strong and they sound very promising, I would definitely be interested in a full length, only with the hope however that they’d do more like ‘All Eyes’. I think it’s worth the risk anyway though.
