Atomic Hooligan - Sex, Drugs and Blah Blah Blah
This was a really difficult album to review as its typically not style of music I would listen to. However, if it were played while on the dance floor, I would shake my ass to it. I therefore thought that when considering my approach to the review a break down of the tracks may offer a better understanding to the CD so here goes.
‘Dirty’
This is a track that begins with a static pounding environment you would love to see open a gig. The electric mix of sounds has an R’n’B style, specifically to the vocals, with sirens and bird noises included to mix things up.
‘I Don’t Care’
This one is more electronic with its rhythms and has slightly more indie vocals. The central ear squealing mass of screeches and beeps are enough to wake even the dead. However, the “I don’t care, its alright” hook was catchy.
‘Who’s Ya Daddy Now?’
Purely musical based this one has alarms, electronic buzzes and jazzy guitars.
‘Paper Cuts’
The vocals and beat to this one is quite movable
‘Inside the Mind’
Once I reached this point I became quite curious as to what the individuals present at the beginning were laughing about. As I listened further, I came to the conclusion that I DO NOT want to be ‘Inside The Mind’ of these people.
‘Dome In’
This track is more Indie loving with a small electric R’n’B touch. The chorus has a very noticeable “what are you doing to me?” hook you can’t help but get wrapped up in.
‘Spread Good Vibes’
The unique vocals of Wyclef are very reminiscent as this track began. Mainly following an R’n’B styling, with the inclusion of an electronic beat, you may feel a whizzing around sensation as you listen
‘Safeguard’
The female lead vocals make for a great change, reminding me a little of Pink and the attitude she is able to put across within her vocals, this is a track to take notice of.
‘Weed’
Well what else is there to say? If you want a high, spaced out consciousness while acting like an idiot dancing and waving your arms in slow motion to a song only you can hear then this is the track to listen to.
‘Blah Blah Blah’
This one has a slightly darker feeling than the previous tracks. The vocals begin with a mysterious tone, affectively becoming a cockney, bouncing number with an excellent “I’m tired of your blah blah blah” chorus.
‘String Vest’
Where the name comes from for this 40-second squeak I have absolutely no idea
‘Electro Ain’t Electro’
All that comes to mind is wiz wiz squeak squeak. Remember the annoying song ‘Satisfaction’ by Benny Benassi with the women in skimpy outfits drilling? That is what this track is like; A NIGHTMARE.
‘Thief’
The fast paced females vocals is what keeps this number alive.
‘Too Late To Be Afraid’
A slow paced melody washes over you and just when you don’t expect it, you hit by a BUZZING!
Well, that’s pretty much all said and done. Not much for a bedroom listen, maybe more of made for the dance floor release.
