The Presets - This Boy 's In Love

Take out both hands and stretch out a finger for every decent Australian band you can think of off the top of your head. Struggling to get past three? Wondering whether INXS really count? Well fear not because The Presets are coming straight out of the Antipodes with a single so delicious you’d be hard pushed not to rethink altogether the merits of Australia as a musical nation.

‘This Boy’s In Love’ is a blisteringly, unpretentious, electo/dance rock monster. It’s brisk, tough, weighty vocals are ably assisted by some of the most outright trashy synths ever recorded making this perfect for a summer spent driving, dancing or drinking. Naff it may be, dated even but that doesn’t mean it’s not a really good listen from start to finish. Think Depeche Mode crossed with Daft Punk or Crocodile Dundee crossed with Dr Karl Kennedy or . . . nah I’ll stop there.
