A bit different from the rest.

It seems today that you cannot move for new female singers taking up the airwaves and filling out concert venues. That’s all well and good but what happens when the female singer songwriter recession kicks in? There will be queues of underused female warblers packing out dole offices and the Government will be forced to step in. That said though, keep them coming because the more new ones we have then the smaller the need will be for rubbish like Sandi Thom and KT Tunstall.

One of the new breed is Beth Rowley, a young lady with an impressive voice. Okay, that could be used to describe so many of them these days so is there anything else to differentiate Rowley with? Thankfully there is as ‘So Sublime’ veers away from the current soul trend and harks to the more carefree 60s vibe, albeit without a flower in her hair! Its more of the poppier sunshine 60s track, perhaps touching on the Carpenters vibe. This clearly comes through as Rowley has a voice that is reminiscent of Karen Carpenters delivery but there is also the happy piano tinkling and the rather upbeat lyrics and feel of the song.

It doesn’t have enough oomph and drive to do a Duffy and power all the way to number one but ‘So Sublime’ should get plenty of airplay on places like Radio2 and you will find yourself tapping your feet, nodding away to this cheery little number.

With a debut album to come there appears to be a lot for the singer to look forward and with two of her tracks set to feature on a forthcoming film featuring Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller, there is going to be a lot of exposure afforded to the artist.

Fingers are most definitely crossed that the album builds on the potential shown here.
