Pigeon Detectives

After support slots with the likes of Dirty Pretty Things and Kaiser Chiefs, the Pigeon Detectives was highlighted as a band that is going to do great things in the coming years. With the release of the second album from his Leeds based band, ‘Emergency’ looks set to cause quite a panic.

‘This Is An Emergency’ is the lead single from the Pigeon Detectives second album and is just a snippet of what the other tracks hold in store. It has the catchy strumming of guitar strings and pounding of drums and a lyrical line, “Don’t make me go…” to get you singing along.

‘Everybody Wants Me’ is even bouncier with the electric riffs raising the tracks ambience to something of a static sting. This is followed by ‘Nothing to Do With You’, a track much more down to basics. Acoustic for much of the time, the indie vocals and guitar pings make a perfect combination and complement each other extremely well. With the introduction of strings in some areas, the track has that short but sweet sense to it.

‘I'm a Liar’ returns back to what we know the Pigeon Detectives are great at. As the base kicks up, the beat bounces and images of individuals jumping for joy can be visualised. The closing track on this sampler is ‘Keep on Your Dress’ and it rounds the five tracks up nicely with its indie styling, and developing harmonies.

If the album includes even more tracks likes these then the band has nothing to fear in the future. Delightful, likeable, thrilling and then there is the more emotional side of the band. This CD shows a little of everything the Pigeon Detectives is capable of creating. Remember, this is just a sample of what the album is like, so if you like the sound of these tracks, why not get your hands on ‘Emergency’ now.
