Subways - Alright

The Subways return after what has seemed an age with their first real single release from their forthcoming album All or Nothing on Monday 16th June. A lot has happened to this band since their debut album but that is thankfully now all in the past, they are back to what they do best as all those that saw their recent UK tour will testify.

Having already given away the impressive Girls and Boys as a free download on the bands website how does Alright stand up? Well it is not one of The Subways rockier songs but has a chilled out feel to it which makes it perfect to be a summer classic. All we need is a summer. Front man, Billy Lunn, is unusually restrained on here and with the harmonic backing vocals from Charlotte Cooper it all adds up to be, well more than Alright actually.

There is a real gem of a B Side in the shape of Clock on the CD version of this single, which looks as though will be the only time this sadly overlooked song is going to get released. This makes two great reasons to get a copy of this long overdue comeback.

The Subways may have just done a tour but they are playing three Zavvi in store gigs next week, London on the 16th, Bristol on the 18th and Manchester on the 19th.
