Feeder - Silent Cry
Wales have given us so many good bands over the years, and one of the best is Feeder. We have had many good things from them since they formed back in 1992, but ‘Silent City’; the bands sixth full-length release may be the best to date.
From the opening track ‘We Are the People’ you instantly know that this is a hit record. It is about change and unity in the world, differences every individual must implement to make a difference. This is an uplifting track, it makes you warm inside and want to hug the nearest person. It has a soft atmosphere while at the same time having a rock musical side; it is quite a creation. The remainder of the album has similar quality tracks.
‘Itsumo’ is incredible with its amazing style and riffs; the opening rhythm to ‘Miss You’ is just as good. ‘Heads Held High’ is a false starter. It begins acoustic, all nice and mellow but really kicks up. ‘Space’ is the perfect interlude, which leads to ‘Into the Blue’, a jumpy and unbelievably catchy number that is going to be a hit with anyone sane, and not so, that listens to it.
Emotions certainly run wild and with excitement on this album. The title track is just one example. When listening to ‘Tracing Lines’ I got the same tingles through my body with power and possession as I did when first hearing ‘The Best Of You’ by the Foo Fighters. It is the incredible musical amplitude that makes you dwell on the track well after it has finished. ‘Fires’ is another emotional and passionate track that busts with energy and enthusiasm; this is a track with high hopes.
The bands third album ‘Echo Park’ prepelled them into the mainstream in 2001 and it looks like ‘Silent City’ is going to be yet another massive hit for Feeder.
