Brighton based Vile Imbeciles (& I’m beginning to think the name quite apt) release this single ahead of the second album ‘Queenie was a Blonde’.
Speaking of ‘Bad Ideas’ putting this out as a single was one! This is just a bit rubbish really, the vocals are just a rambling half speed rap/monotonous drone supplemented by a repetitive distorted bass line and some random guitar canoodling over the top. Neither catchy or engaging it’s all rather pointless. I suppose you could say it’s ’arty’ and you probably wouldn’t get much disagreement.
‘Bad Ideas’ is backed with ‘The Worm’, which sounds like Syd Barrett swallowed a bucket full of downers and then recorded everything at half speed! A rather minimalist and dark number that would probably give you nightmares if you got the unlucky mushroom. Having said all of that this is probably one of those records that I won’t play again for 10 years and then rediscover it and hail it as a work of genius. Right now though 10 years seems like a good distance.
