MC5-style garage assualt
White Denim are developing a fearsome reputation as a live act, after storming the SXSW festival earlier this year. This is the second single from the hotly anticipated debut album ‘Workout Holiday’, and it doesn’t disappoint. A neat mixture of garage, blues, pop, punk, and even a bit of soul, the sheer aural assault is magnificent. This could easily be the Groundhogs if they’d gone a bit more pop, or a modern day MC5.
James Petralli’s vocals are amazing; powerful and already sounding like a classic. Team that with the relentless riffs and pounding drums, and you’ve got a single that looks set to take over the airwaves on both sides of the Atlantic. Edgy, loud, and yet with a bizarre but not unwelcome sitar break (I kid you not). Not bad for a studio project from Austin.
