Fifth single from a live favourite

A word of warning to begin with: you will get this stuck in your head, whether you like it or not. It is another of those insanely catchy summer tunes that pop up every so often. Which is not a bad thing. On the other hand, it’s a song that suits faux-youthful mobile phone adverts and suchlike, so you may end up hearing it ad infinitum.

The single is a new, reworked version of the album one, which is either a stroke of genius • sell an album, and you get one version, and still have a saleable single. Pop music with integrity • who’d have thought it?

Faulkner has an uncanny ability to make ‘pop’ music an acceptable word again, alongside other good-time troubadours such as Jack Johnson. Maybe this will be the single that brings his woeful chart positions in line with his popularity as a live artist. It’s original, catchy, and upbeat, all ready for summer on the beach. But do we need five singles (counting the re-release of I Need Something in early July) from one album, even if they are brilliant songs?
