Whats The Score?

I really don’t know what to make of The Lights. Honestly.

Their single ‘The Score’ has been played on-off for the past couple of weeks and its still hard to get any opinion about them other then they’re alright.

The problem is, there are hundreds, if not thousands of bands up and down the country who are just like The Lights. Heck, some of them are probably also called The Lights. Its just that generic could be any place any time name that immediately gives the band a bigger obstacle to get past. Unfortunately for them this will be thrown back in their face as will the fact that they do not look like a band at all. They look like a random experiment choosing one person from the four corners of the pub and sticking them behind the barmaid and telling them they are a band.

Right, names and image are all superfluous but ‘The Score’ does nothing to stand out from the crowd far less “shine into the drear crepuscular corners of relentlessly verbatim British bands.” Perhaps the PR staff should write their lyrics for them.

Lizzy Keys has a decent set of vocals on her and the backing vocals under her main refrain work nicely but theres no real emotion or reason to get involved or believe in it. If you can remember the wave of bands who came after the Britpop era, all the bands that were the same who were completely interchangeable and made records that could have been by anyone of the time.

They’re back.
