Good honest Indie-Rock…

Here we have Liverpool band The Steeples with their single, ‘Loosy Lucy’, showcasing their talents as an Indie-Rock band that sound like a melting pot of The Kooks, The Libertines and Cast.

‘Loosy Lucy’ is a catchy song that teeters on the edge of a couple of genres from it’s Ska beat, it’s melodic Indie guitar riffs and simple rock backbone, to the John Power-esque vocals. It is a catchy plod of a pop song with sex-fuelled lyrics like: “So I said pull up, pull up, pull up your skirt // I can’t wait to see what’s under those French lace knickers // I pulled my pants around my ankles again // Just rocking back and forward thinking of my Lucy…”.

We are given that added bonus of two more songs here and whilst, ‘Moving To The City’ follows on not too dissimilar to ‘Loosy Lucy’, sounding very much like The Kooks, it’s the third song, ‘Sunbathing In Toxteth’ that once again showcases The Steeples in their original guise, with the simplistic vocals and ukulele strum, it has an air of Mungo Jerry about it.

The Steeples have been touring around the UK for the past 6 months and with manger Tony Newbury (a guy who guided the careers of The Charlatans and The Farm to name but a few)at the helm, then there is no reason why they shouldn’t become one of the British breakthrough artists of the year.
