Haunting folk-blues from Brit duo
Right from the twanging echoing guitar intro that’s half-folk-half-country you’ll be hooked. There’s something reminiscent of the Strange Sensation or more folky Zeppelin here, or a sort of Celtic blues in the echoey double-tracked vocals. ‘Living With Ghosts’ is a perfect embodiment of being almost unable to pick out individual components of a song, it all blends together so well. There is some astounding slide guitar playing here too, giving it a mean, moody, and magnificent aura of wandering in the wilderness. It’s fragile and yet tough and threatening at the same time, like nature itself. Haunting.
‘Troubles’ is just as haunting; stark and basic like a winter’s evening, it’s just guitars and vocals, and then a mournful violin, without the backing of the title track. Yet it lacks none of the soul. There’s even a slight medieval twist that Blackmore’s Night would be proud of. This is amazing stuff for a debut album, lets hope they have all the success they deserve.
