Energetic Pop Punk Garage Rock
Memphis punk pop rockers Jay Reatard is releasing six single over this summer following a deal with Matador Records. Each single has a limited release and they're expected to sell out on the day of release, so third in the series, 'Always Wanting More' is sure to be in demand regardless of its quality. Quality is not something to be questioned insofar as the single is a well-recorded, well put together garage pop punk tune. The grimy vocals are probably the most immediately gripping thing about the song, while the guitarwork is fairly standard, driven-rock fare with thundering drums setting the racing beat. It's a pretty sweet track for its genre with plenty to interest the listener, although the simple and speedily-delivered vocals give the impression of lowest denominator pop like Bowling For Soup, Jay Reatard's music is more than just fun and as such, remains interesting after more than a few listens.
B-side, 'You Mean Nothing To Me' is a kooky tune with some sunny synths and clattering beats bringing it to life. Both tracks are 2 minute wonders but they're both full of fun and energy. If this doesn't get you on your feet, I don't know what will!
