East-side.

Broken Records are from Edinburgh but that’s no reason to ignore them, ‘Slow Parade’ has more than enough to worm its way into the head of many indie lovers. The introduction of the track meanders slowly and whilst sometimes this could suggest a lack of focus, with this intro, you genuinely feel that the possibilities are endless.

It’s not a disappointment when the drums crash in, the strings enter and the melodies push a bit harder. Its not as if the tempo increases by too much but there is definitely an increase in energy and desire, all the while nursing the fragility of the song along. Considering it is only their second single, theres a lot going on here and makes you think that this band is wise beyond their years. Certainly the comparisons that come to mind should be bandies about with caution so we’ll refrain slightly here but if you imagine some of the biggest bands to use strings and melody in an indie landscape in recent years, you wont be too far from the target with regards Broken Records.

Their live show lives up to the recorded sound and if enough people pick them up now, there is definitely a bright future for Broken Records. It’s a big sound, even the quiet moments sound grand but as suggested, there's a fragility about this bands as well and its hard not to feel a little fondly about them.
