Go Straight For The Bside

Paul Weller is one of those artists who refuse to be kept down and 2008 sees him return with a number 1 album, '22 Dreams'. The fact that 'All I Wanna Do'/'Push It Along' are being released as double A-sides is also testimony to Weller's belief in the power of his material. 'All I Wanna Do' is an upbeat, slightly jangly mellow number with brash guitars and crashing percussion. There are some cute, slightly twee guitar riffs amidst the fairly average bright indie guitar work, making this a pretty solid indie rock tune, be that one with little in the way of real excitement. 'Push It Along' is a catchy shimmying bluesy number that's plenty of fun and as sleek and well produced as you would expect for someone like Weller. There's some shimmering tambourine percussion and a big, ballsy riff, but like its partner here, it's also fairly unexceptional.

B-side 'Big Brass Buttons' was co-written by and features Bobby Gillespie and has a slighter rougher edge with some cool guitarwork and vocal snarl of, "You're so cool you were raised by wolves". It's probably the most interesting track on this single turning into a slightly psychedelic and colourful indie rock number with funky beats.
