Perfunctory Electro-Pop
Whether Robots in Diguise have any real musical talent, or just plenty of style and some funky friends, has always been debatable. Excellent production from Chris Corner makes, ‘The Tears’ sound highly classy in any case. It’s a smooth and dance-friendly affair with handclaps permeating 80’s style mellow synths. For a tale of “paranoid love”, it’s all rather laidback and at points, slightly lacklustre. The vocals are cute and maintain the raw edge that the girls have in real life, but the chorus never really takes all, even after the provocative lyrics like, “I’m your slave, got to taste the tears”. There’s just no real excitement of peak to ‘The Tears’ and it’s therefore pretty hard to get excited about sadly. Next please…
