Gorgoroth- True Norwegian black metal, Live in Greighallen
For those of you who do not know Gorgoroth is probably one of the greatest and best loved black metal bands around. Founded in 1992, in Bergen, Norway, previous members read like a who’s who of Black Metal. 'True Norwegian Black mMetal - Live In Greighallen' is Gorgorths first full-length live album.
Recorded at Grieghallen Lydstudio in Bergen and Threeman recording studio in Stockholm, the album represents the most likely of tracks you would expect to hear at a Gorgorth live show. Recorded before the infamous split, leaving Gorgoroth in two factions, that of Infernus on one side and Gaahl and King on the other. Gaahl and King took Regain records to court over the unauthorised release of '... Live in Greighallen' apparently Regain records had removed Kings bass track and mixed the album without Gaahl and Kings knowledge. The Courts sided with Gaahl and King and Regain records were ordered to stop selling the album. So what we have here is 8 Tracks lasting 31 minutes, which is a little on the short side.
I would of loved a “proper” live album in front of an audience. But this is still a fantastic release and it’s a real shame that it's not available for sale anymore(saying that check Amazon used and new and ebay!). The production is fantastic, picking up the guitars fantastic sharp sound, the drums in all their beating fury and Gaahls dastly shrieks sitting in just right. It’s raw and meaty, personally I prefer this kind of sound to a more overly polished production. If you're new to Gorgoroth then I wouldn’t recommend this release but for the already familiar I recommend hunting this down.
