Destinity- The Inside

I have not enjoyed much music to come out of France (and no, I do not have anything against the French, apart from their toilets and food!). Well thankfully, Destinity are bucking the trend for me. Melodic death metal can be a sore point for some and I would be the first to shout at any band playing any kind of death metal too, “Leave the keyboards ALONE!” However, Destinity are not as clear-cut as “Melodic death metal”. Ok so there is the obvious Dimmu Borgir sonic connections. Nevertheless, Destinity introduce some differing styles and are unashamedly catchy. Despite its genre crossing sounds, 'The Inside' isn’t a unique album, but does that make it any less of an enjoyable listen?

Simply put, I think the answer is no. Recorded and mixed at Hansen studio by Jacob and Michael Hansen, 'The Inside' production is crispy and clear, all instruments are audible and distinguishable and the overall feel is big and heavy. Opener 'My senseless theory' stands out for me, from its sheer face pounding ferocity to its catchy chorus over Breakdown guitar and drums. They still manage to place keys/synth much to my dismay, but it’s not the worst I’ve heard. If Destinity could cut the keys/synth then I would be really happy, as the rest of the music is some damn fine metal.

It seems that these days everyone puts a bit of Hardcore into their music, its influence stretch far and wide and Destinity are no exception to this. Okay maybe I was a tad harsh about the keys, as the symphonic choruses reminiscent of Dimmu borgir do them no harm, I suppose it’s just down to my personal preference.

I think you’ll be impressed by Destinity if you’re a fan of melodic death metal, their definitely worth a listen. If you give it a few listens I can guarantee that 'The Inside' will grow on you.
