Why change a winning formula?
Icelandic geniuses Sigur Ros release their latest glorious, euphoric single; as usual it’s just begging to be used on film soundtracks or TV trailers because it’s the kind of simply splendid piece of music that’s gentle and yet passionate and therefore has universal appeal. The one thing that would render Sigur Ros inaccessible is the fact that no one can spell their titles, and the fact that this one is written on the cover in a very stylised font makes it especially cryptic. Perhaps the ebuillent Icelandic lyrics are just another reason why Sigur Ros are so easy to like though; you can’t criticise what you can’t understand and the melodies simply waft over you without demanding any thought on the nature of their meaning.
There’s sadly not much to say for this track other than it’s typical Sigur Ros with a glistening, light melody supported by buoyant percussion and glowing instrumental harmonies. Why change a winning formula?
