Sweet as glace cherries
Originally the release date of this single was Valentine’s Day, which is also guitarist Adrian’s birthday. Thank God they choose to change the date; don’t get me wrong, I love this song, but that kind of clichéd gesture would have been over the top in the soppy stakes.
"My Drug" is effortlessly aching. It’s a sweet, all consuming ballad with a chorus backed by shimmery guitars and swooning vocals “you are my drug, you are”, which almost draws a tear from the eye. It would have been so easy for this song to be as wet as a winter weekend in Slough, but tight drums and moving guitars perk it up. The verses are honest and easy on the ear. If you can catch this tune live, it really comes into its own, but as it stands it’s catchy, moving and envelopes you in emotive pop.
