Uninspiring
Being Steve Harris’ daughter Lauren Harris’ musical career has had a kickstart touring with the likes of Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden, although quite how she managed this is a source of amazement as she in fact sounds like a bland version of Pink. Judging by this song alone, the debut single from her album, Lauren’s record deal probably revolves mostly around her father’s connections. ‘Your Turn’ is a pop punk tune filled with the sort of vengeful teenage sentiments that have taken Avril Lavigne and Pink to fame, but it lacks the catchy melodies of the former, instead replacing them with brash rock guitars that obscure the vocal line and make the song instantly forgettable. There are a good few pompous guitar solos thrown in for no apparent reason that go even further in alienating Lauren from her potential audience, who are presumably teenage girls as no old rocker wants to hear about teenage jealousy.
It’s dull after the first listen and irritating by the second so let’s hope Miss Harris has more up her sleeve for the rest of her album than just a rock chick image.
