Substance Over Style
Far from being your run of the mill, throw away band, Remedy seem to have little in common with most other young bands striving to please that cold hard mistress that is the music world. For starters, this is a four piece that genuinely appear to be plying their trade for the sheer love of it, not for what magazine cover they could get on next. Add to this the fact that they boast a female lead singer who’s not just there to look pretty, but who can actually sing as well, and Remedy look dangerously like they may have all the key components in the palm of their hands.
Pulsing with a classic rock vibe that punches from each grit fuelled beat, debut EP ‘Strange Fast Now’ confidently charges with an energetic swagger that oozes attitude as opener, ‘Last Demand’ straps a barrage of throbbing 70s riffs around Jenn Cherene’s passion packed vocals that offer just enough rawness to provide that extra tenacity to the package. Veering slightly into Lacuna Coil territory to start, ‘Desire’ is an adrenaline rush of uncompromised vocals as Cherene’s inner rock chick shows the guys just how things are done, before ‘Learn To Speak’ showcases Remedy’s softer side, although never fully relinquishing the band’s rock soul even as the more sedate ‘Midnight To Morning’ tenderly moves in.
Snarling amidst charging riffs, ‘Priests And Preachers’ erupts into a guitar frenzy, soloing as if their lives depended on it whilst ‘Sacred Deep Inside’ strives for anthem status, retreating to a mere whisper before erupting with uncontrollable enthusiasm that shouts for fists to be raised in the air. Substance over style, Remedy are all about the music.
