Whatever happened to The Killers? Brandon Flowers used to sing about bigger boys and stolen sweethearts like the poor little lamb we took him for. Now he looks towards the stars with the doe-eyed optimism of 50’s Americana for new single 'Spaceman'.
Whilst the subject matter reaches new heights, the hit-making formula remains. This is still The Killers of shimmering keyboards, nagging choruses turned up a notch and nonsense lyrics that this time suggest alien abduction. Even the yelping, quick fire vocals tend to garner sympathy for our good friend Flowers. If there is something fresh it’s the tedious "oh oh’s", but when Kaiser Chiefs have already trademarked them it ain't exactly novel.
Before long, the melody sits implanted in your mind and no matter what flirts with your ears, it remains. Alas, Flowers could be singing about the recession and it would still sound tediously memorable. Little changes then.
