Voodoo Johnson - Into the Red
They formed in 2006, gigged alongside many growing bands, which helped them to promote their debut Ep in early 2008 and now, ‘Into The Red’, the second Ep to be released by Birmingham based VooDoo Johnson is about to make its presence.
Consisting of five individually crafted tunes, as well as two reformed explicit tracks, the Cd opens with ‘The Longest Day I Ever Wasted’, a song that pulls in a listener with affection, and creates a floating on cloud nine sensation with its vocal capability; sweet and innocent with an inner naughtiness. The distinctive vocals remain through the other four songs, making a rugged statement on ‘Bad Habit’ and making ‘Seven Years’ a little emotional.
The majority of tracks are guitar driven, suppressing the listener with tingles as it hits a nerve. There are some intense electric impacts on ‘Another White Lie’, some darker segments on ‘Inhale’ and acoustic guitar starting up on ‘Seven Years’. It is here the melancholy ballad style ambiance converging with the electric riffs and pounding drums darken and support the atmospheric emotions.
‘Into The Red’ is just the beginning of 2009 VooDoo Johnson. They have gigs lined up; including the Gathering in the Park Festival alongside other great artists, as this year looks set to kick off something huge.
