Death to Jeff Lynne.

Bounding onto the scene like a slice of sunshine 70s pop, there is the possibility that this song could fall into the piss-poor feel of ELO but for now, we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and say that The Boy Least likely To are possibly channelling the humour and wit of Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. This means that the act are also hovering around the line of smugness and thinking they are a lot cleverer than they really are which is not an endearing trait. The lyrics manage to combine a biblical tale and a throw-away line from Scooby Doo and in fact, on reflection, everything about this song means you would love to punch every band member in the face but amazingly, you are left with the sensation that it may just be alright, somehow???

The song bops and bounces about quite nicely in a light and frothy pop manner with the casual and breezy vocals seemingly making it hard to get too worked up or angry about it. The musical backing is almost carnival-esque encouraging an upbeat feel and it even comes close to the light and upbeat track that Take That like to release every so often to prove that they really are a bunch of great guys as opposed to the po-faced wankers they are that the British record buying public refuses to acknowledge.

If it gets the airplay, this song could sell in numbers but then again, that’s what The Hoosiers managed and it’s debatable whether they should be allowed to breathe, let alone make music. Everything about this review indicates that the song is awful and it is, it is immensely dislikeable for so many reason but hey ho, that tends to be the thing that sells nowadays so The Boy Least likely To are probably one of the more likely to shift some units in the next few months. Seriously though guys, if you want to escape with your lives don’t come back with another single that sounds as though it has been touched by the hands of Jeff Lynne.
