Given it a listen...
Given that Slashed Seat Affair have just released one of the most magnificent singles you will hear this year, I was intrigued to hear what their debut album ‘Noises’ had in store.
The band is made up of Darren Michael on bass, Rob Meehan on drums, Noël Martin on guitar and vocalist Ellie Mules, who seems to be the stitch that holds the band together. With her writing partnership with Darren they create some catchy lyrics, such as those present on the recent single ‘No More Lies’, this is sewn together with some haunting melodies and of course Ellie’s powerful vocal presence and the result is an album of power, enthusiasm, creativity and originality.
Each song is packed with dedication and sentiment. It is through the music as well as the vocals that a listener begins to comprehend what Slashed Seat Affair are more than capable of achieving. They blast away with some upbeat rhythms and sometimes a few edgier ones, creating a big atmospheric pressure that builds up and explodes with vigorous character. There are some slower moments, where the band express a more relaxed nature but even so, they are still able to retain the attentiveness they weave through the albums entirety.
This album doesn’t give enough credit to the band. It is one thing to sit back in your room or in your car and listen to ‘Noises’ and think, “that’s not a bad album”, but it is another matter to see them perform live. I had the pleasure of experiencing them perform some of the tracks the album has on offer a while ago and they appear livelier on stage and can entertain the eyes as well as the ears. Any live performance gives a band the opportunity to experiment and try new things with their songs, but Slashed Seat Affair go all out.
If like me you listen to the album and think it isn’t half bad, check out Slashed Seat Affair when they play a venue near you, it will be an experience you will always remember.
