They're Anthemic
A set by Placebo is a set that everybody knows. No matter what song is being played you instinctively know the lyrics even if you’re not a Placebo fan. Over the years it seems that most of Placebo’s music has, in fact, become anthemic.
Despite the lay of the land making Lostprophets fade in to non-existence earlier in the day – you could not escape Placebo wherever you are standing in Leeds tonight. As they open their set with mammoth guitar riffs and their unique blend of camp indie-rock you suddenly realise that somewhere in the last five years, Placebo have become contemporary music legends.
As the crowd sing along, the band just play – they don’t joke or talk to the crowd, yet somehow it doesn’t actually matter. Most bands come off as either scared or arrogant if they act like Placebo – yet for Brian Moloko and the rest of Placebo you couldn’t ever imagine them being scared or arrogant on stage. Brian is an intelligent, funny, unique front-man whose cool and calm comes across throughout the band’s entire performance. From playing keyboards whilst smoking to just strutting around the stage like a peacock.
If their set today is anything to go by, then the upcoming Wembley Arena show really is going to be a “best-of” – with songs spanning their entire career. This band are a “must-see” band; and if you haven’t done already – add them to your list now.
