Worming Drummers Ahoy
When a 700 capacity venue has only sold 83 tickets, you get the feeling that the band youre going to watch are rubbish. This, however, isnt always the case. In the last 24 hours The Mooney Suzuki have had Radio One airplay, been on Kerrang! Radio and had Jonathan Ross speaking highly of them or so their tour manager informs us.

From the second that they walk out on stage, there is no escaping one fact. This band are American; everything about then oozes American excess from the bushy-haired bassist to the farmer-George drummer to the sideburn-laden front-man.

For such a small crowd, The Mooney Suzuki certainly knows how to control it. Proclaiming that their new album will not just blow your speakers [but also] your mind, the crowd cheer as Graham Tyler, guitarist, jumps over the security barrier and in to the centre of the crowd. After a brief stint back on stage it is time for Augie Wilson, drums, to rips a fan out of the wall and walk across the stage with a John Cloose ministry of silly walks-style jig. One thing The Mooney Suzuki can never be accused of is lacking in stage presence and performance skills.

With swaggering solos that ring through the venue and music that makes your ass shake whilst your face smiles, its easy to see why The Mooney Suzuki are, so quickly, hitting the big leagues with their yet-to-be-released but already acclaimed, Alive and Amplified.
If their current on-stage shenanigans are anything to go by, The Mooney are not only destined for great things, but theyre going to keep you dancing from the second you hear them. If thats not enough for you then its got to be worth seeing Augie doing the worm across stage.
