Proving Their Worth

A few years ago American Head Charge were on the brink of greatness. Then, out of nowhere, they vanished. After a lot of inner-band turmoil and re-discovery they're back with a new album and a new tour.

Their fans are dedicated with head-to-toe clown makeup from 'The Feeding's' cover, 14 year olds that look as if they would tear you limb from limb in a pit and an atmosphere that's palpable. There is no doubt that this crowd are here to mean business and that their loyalty through the band's four-year absence is only causing things to get even more heated.

The Cardiff Barfly is packed to the rafters and the soaring temperature generated by a few hundred packed-in-bodies only adds to the atmosphere as American Head Charge take to the tiny stage.

It's rare to see it in a venue this size - but American Head Charge ooze with the charisma of a band playing gigs to twenty thousand people rather than two hundred. There's no doubt that AHC have carried on exactly where they left off a few years ago. A strategically placed festival appearance this year and Brixton Academy being packed out is a realistic prospect a year from now.

As they tear through a mix of songs from their entire collection of material the crowd surges towards the band overwhelming the tiny Barfly stage.

As a crowd of all ages leaves the Barfly, with many cases of serious whiplash, to surround the tour bus one thing is clear - if they don't implode again, American Head Charge will be hug by the end of 2006. Don't miss them whilst you still have the chance.
