Mastodon rear their ugly head
There's a problem now. A serious problem. Every single live review on RoomThirteen will now have to be shifted up a couple of points to make way for Burst. Burst are without a doubt the worst band I have ever seen, and I've seen Violent Delight. Astonishingly poor vocals are complimented by a total lack of musical ability. There were no tears when they finally left the stage! Dozer were somewhat different in that you might be able to make out every word in three, but again they fell prey to a serious lack of musical flair. So far, one terrible and one weak support band. Mastodon have their work cut out.
Sometime later out comes the band who won "Album of the Year" an awful lot of times in 2004. Personally something tells me that it isn't a reward they're going to be holding onto for long if the people who awarded it to them saw them yesterday. The band were static on stage with absolutely no communication with the immobile crowd except a brief "Hello" at the start, and a setlist that consisted of tearing songs from their albums, wringing out any sort of melody or redeeming quality and then throwing it at the onlookers.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what the setlist was and I don't think anyone ever will, even Mastodon. But if there was a setlist lying around it would probably consist of "Noise". At a stretch, I seem to remember the second song they played being their best, but that may have been the concussion setting in.
Overall, Mastodon are great live if you go to a gig to hurt people or get shouted at. But then, you can do that at work, so why spend a tenner doing what you could make a tenner for?
