Dead Against at Silkfest
Dead Against was the first band I saw at Silkfest. With four average looking guys placed with instruments and a rather black apparel wearing youth leading the band. They kicked into a song without any proper introduction, Dead Against mix traditional Ska with blistering hardcore resulting in a much more brutal version of Leftover Crack. The band showed great technicality in their set, the drummer producing some marvellous soloing and improvisation. Although their music was enough to get the crowd moving, it seemed that the band weren't enjoying themselves, staying rooted to the ground even at the most chaotic of times. Something I found rather interesting was how the band was able to breakdown into the melody of 'The hall of the Mountain King' by Grieg and then transform it into a Ska song. Overall a good set to start off the evening at Silks from a promising band.
