GWAR 23/04/05
Whilst stagehands cover the stage with protective plastic and gaffer tape, the crowd stand patiently for the start of the show. With an almost pantomime style entrance GWAR walk on stage. It is now that the heaving Birmingham Academy 2 is transformed from a selection of music fans to an unruly mob ready to praise the talents of the "Scum Dogs of the Universe".

GWAR certainly know how to put on a stage show - and within minutes it's time for the first guest appearance of the night with a characterised Arnold Schwarzenegger whose wandering hands where grotesquely hacked off. This is followed by Paris Hilton's entire torso being mutilated during the song "Womb with View" with Michael Jackson being given the same treatment - even his son Prince Michael could not escape the GWAR treatment and found himself grossly massacred! Fantastic.

As blood pours from the victims on stage it covers the entire crowd yet nobody seems to care. Everyone is transfixed by the spectacle that is GWAR. As Osama bin Laden is slaughtered to "Bring Back the Bomb" the crowd cheer but nothing seems to top the sight of a selection of men dressed in alien costumes slaughtering George W. Bush.
GWAR are a band who intend to offend and if, somehow, you didn't know what to expect - an evening with GWAR would be a life changing one. For those people who have followed GWAR since day 1 it's a triumphant start to their UK tour.
