Punk Rock All the Way

Bowling for Soup are a funny band, they're a band that seem to have been around forever and they're great to watch live. It was many years ago that 'The Bitch Song' sprung them in to the limelight and since then they have steadily built up a catalogue of classic punk rock anthems.

Punk rock is meant to be fun, casual and all about the energy - and that is something that Bowling for Soup understand perfectly. Watching Bowling for Soup is like watching some of your friends live on stage. You laugh with them, you party with them and you're convinced that you'll be going to the aftershow with them. This is the band that would quite happily sit and have a beer with each and every one of their fans. As they suggest taking the whole crowd on a joy ride around Donington race track, you can see vocalist Jaret's mental cogs turning to see if this is at all viable.

As '1985' begins and Jaret and Chris do their double act talking about the flying Nemo balloon that will later be partying with Anthrax, their chatting resembles that of people who are simply here to have a good time and to give everyone else a laugh - the perfect band to appear on a Saturday afternoon.

As Chris fantasises about Slayer beating him to death, Jaret and he carry on doing what they do best - having a great time. It all culminates with a sheep being taken from the audience (a plastic one), having a hole torn in its buttocks and a banana inserted. I'd place money that Slayer won't be doing that tomorrow.

Bowling for Soup won't give you guitar solos, they won't push the boundaries of rock, but they will be the most energetic, fun and entertaining band that you're ever likely to see.

As Jaret says, "It looks like a sea of people having a fucking good time". I couldn't agree more.
